KEYBOARD GRADE 3

What’s Involved?

Up To 90 Marks For

You are required to play THREE pieces (each one attracts 30 marks)

You can elect to play:

  1. all three pieces from those listed within our syllabus
  2. OR you can opt for three pieces of your own choice (*please find guidance in ‘Own Choice’ Zone)
  3. OR you can mix repertoire featuring in our syllabus list combined with pieces of your own choice (*again please visit ‘Own Choice’ Zone for guidance)
Up To 10 Marks For

MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE OR PLAYING A PIECE FROM MEMORY (either of these elements qualifies for 10 marks) 

MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE
You will be asked to explain any symbol, musical term or sign and to answer questions related to the notation that occurs in any of your chosen exam pieces (maximum of six questions)

OR instead

PLAYING A PIECE FROM MEMORY
You can play one of your chosen listed or ‘own choice’ piece from memory

Use Of Keyboard
 

You need to use three of the listed functions/features of your keyboard

  1. The use of varied, contrasting lead voices
  2. Changes of registration
  3. To balance headline, chords and auto accompaniment (one piece)
  4. The use of fingered chords
  5. Use of registration memories (if available)
Playing Skills Guide For This Grade

RIGHT HAND
Four note chords, octaves and intervals / two part playing / dotted quaver and semiquaver timing /   articulation and dynamics

LEFT HAND
New chords of B and E /  F7 and E7 / C and G minor

IN ADDITION
Synchro start / repeats / keys of G and B major
